This Privacy Policy explains how Ohana: Maui Landlord Reviews (“Ohana,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use our mobile apps, websites, and related services (the “Service”).

Summary: We collect the info you provide (e.g., phone number and reviews), technical info (like device and IP), and data generated by your use of the Service. We use Firebase (Auth, Firestore, Hosting, and optionally Analytics/Crashlytics) and may process some requests via a secure server-side AI provider. You can request access or deletion at any time.

1) Information We Collect

A. Information You Provide

Phone Number: used for account creation and verification (SMS).
Profile & Preferences: optional info you add to your account or app settings.
Reviews & Ratings: landlord names, cities, property type, landlord location notes, star ratings, and free-text reviews you submit. Reviews are public.
Support Communications: messages you send to us (email or in-app feedback).

B. Information Collected Automatically

Device & App Data: device model, OS version, app version, language, time zone.
Log & Usage Data: IP address, timestamps, screens viewed, in-app actions.
Cookies / Local Storage (web only): to keep you signed in and improve performance.

C. Information from Service Providers

Firebase Authentication: phone verification status and basic account metadata.
Cloud Firestore: stores reviews and related content you submit.
(Optional) Google Analytics for Firebase: aggregated engagement metrics.
(Optional) Firebase Crashlytics: crash reports and diagnostics.
Server-Side AI Processing: if you use AI features, prompts and outputs may be processed on our secure backend by an AI provider; personal identifiers are not required for these prompts.

2) How We Use Information

Provide and operate the Service (account creation, login, review posting, search, moderation).
Verify your identity via SMS and maintain account security.
Display and distribute user reviews publicly.
Improve quality, performance, safety, and reliability of the Service.
Analyze aggregate usage to guide product decisions (e.g., features, UX).
Communicate with you about your account, changes to our terms/policies, or support matters.
Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.

3) SMS & Communications Consent

By providing your phone number, you consent to receive SMS for verification and security. Message and data rates may apply. You can disable non-essential notifications in your device settings; we may still send transactional or legal notices.

4) Legal Bases (EEA/UK Users)

Where applicable, we rely on: (i) contract necessity (provide the Service), (ii) legitimate interests (security, quality, analytics), (iii) consent (where required, e.g., certain notifications), and (iv) legal compliance.

5) Sharing & Disclosure

Public Content: reviews and ratings you submit are public and may be displayed in the app and on the web.
Service Providers: we share necessary data with vendors (e.g., Firebase, analytics, crash reporting, server-side AI) who process it on our behalf under contractual safeguards.
Legal & Safety: we may disclose information to comply with law, enforce our Terms, protect rights, property, or safety of users or the public.
Business Transfers: in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, data may be transferred as permitted by law.

6) Data Retention

We retain information for as long as needed to provide the Service and for legitimate business or legal purposes (e.g., security, fraud prevention, recordkeeping). You may request deletion of your account and content as described below.

7) Your Choices & Rights

Access / Update: update your phone number or other details via the app (where available) or contact us.
Delete Account: email us to request deletion of your account and associated data. We may preserve limited data where required by law or to enforce our Terms.
Opt-Out of Analytics (where available): follow your device’s platform settings or use in-app toggles if provided.
California (CCPA/CPRA): California residents may request access, deletion, and to opt-out of “sale”/“sharing” of personal information (we do not sell personal info in the traditional sense). To exercise rights, see Section 12.
EEA/UK (GDPR): you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port data, and to object to processing or withdraw consent where applicable.

8) Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect your information (e.g., HTTPS, Firebase security rules). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; use the Service at your own risk.

9) Children’s Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us to request deletion.

10) International Transfers

We operate from the United States. Your information may be processed in the U.S. and other countries that may not provide the same data-protection level as your home jurisdiction. We take steps to protect your information consistent with this Policy.

11) Do Not Track

Some browsers send “Do Not Track” signals. Because there is no accepted industry standard, we currently do not respond to DNT signals.

12) How to Exercise Your Rights

To request access, correction, deletion, or to exercise CCPA/GDPR rights, email admin@ohanamauireviews.com with your name, the phone number tied to your account, and your request. We’ll verify your identity before acting. Authorized agents may submit requests on behalf of a consumer where permitted by law.

13) Third-Party Links

The Service may link to third-party sites (e.g., legal aid, government resources). We are not responsible for their privacy practices; review their policies.

14) Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. The “Effective Date” above indicates the latest revision. Material changes will be communicated (e.g., in-app notice). Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Policy.
